Lorna Shore – Pain Remains

Lorna Shore Pain Remains

Lorna Shore is probably the band of the moment in heavy music.
On October 14, their fourth album came out with the title “Pain Remains”. But the band still feels very young and new. At least since their EP “… And I Return To Nothingness” everyone should be aware of what Lorna Shore can do musically. All the more it was important for the band to find a worthy successor. One thing in advance: They have done it. But let’s take a closer look at the new album.

In the metal frenzy

You are greeted with very epic sounds, you could almost think that someone is just walking in the ring somewhere to this music. But this quickly gives way with blast beats and brutal breakdowns. A combination that will continue at a high tempo throughout the entire album. We quickly get to the already released single “Into the Earth” followed by the also already known songs “Sun//Eater” and “Cursed To Die”. But it’s probably not that important which song is playing exactly, with Lorna Shore the listener is thrown into the deep end and then swims in a tunnel of super fast riffs, nasty growls and pig squals from singer Will Ramos, felt even faster drum parts and on top the always accompanying orchestral interludes.
It all always comes across as very epic and above all fast. A trademark that Lorna Shore already pursued on earlier works, with the current production and even more impressive instrumentation, “Pain Remains” once again appears on a somewhat different level. It’s definitely impressive, generally in the genre of deathcore, that this music can be played so precisely live and Lorna Shore push it to the extreme again – who doesn’t associate Lorna Shore with the vocal skills of Will Ramos. On “Pain Remains”, of course, this can also be heard in its various facets.

Here everything comes together

Lorna Shore once again prove their insane abilities on their instruments with “Pain Remains” and push it a bit further. The orchestration and symphonic overlays give the new album yet another level of heaviness, emotionality and savvy that you won’t find in any other band of their guild. Lorna Shore bridge the genres here and go on the one hand to bands like Nightwish or Winds Of Plague, on the other hand we find in almost every song a discharge in the breakdown, which can hardly be surpassed in accuracy and intensity. With a short visit to Slam or Beatdown, which is however rather short-lived, Lorna Shore show that they do not stop working on their music and literally drive the development of their scene.

The trappings also fit

And not only by audio the band convinces. The trilogy, which can be found at the end of the album, was recorded hanging together and visually taken up in the form of 3 different music videos. The hardness and intensity remains there of course, it’s about loss and suicide, presented as a coherent story, as few bands have tried before (see The Amity Affliction). Lorna Shore know how to present their art on different levels with bravura. A refreshing band that may not reinvent the wheel, but hits exactly the pulse of the times. With “Pain Remains” Lorna Shore have gained a firm place in the scene and are not to be thought away so quickly.
